PostHeaderIcon A Sports Betting Beginner’s Guide To Baseball Betting

A Sports Betting Beginner’s Guide To Baseball Betting There is no sport that can capture the imagination quite like baseball can. While baseball may not be the uncontested holder of the title “America’s favorite past time” anymore, it is certainly putting up a good fight against football.

Baseball is also one of the best sports to start out with if you want to engage in some sports betting. The baseball season is an extremely long one, with each team playing 162 games. Each game will see different players on the field. What that means is that there are hundreds of different combinations to bet on, which means beginners have a good opportunity to truly come up with a winning system.

Before you get those winning ways down, though, you are going to have to go through a bit of a learning curve. In this article, we are going to take a look at some tips and information that should help smooth the bumps out a bit for those just starting to bet on baseball.

Types of bets:

There are three popular types of bets to make when wagering on baseball. The most popular is the money line. Money lines are straightforward bets where you place a wager on one team to win a game against another team. Beginners should always start out betting the money line as it is the least complicated type of bet in terms of guesswork; usually, the better team will win the game period.

The run line adds a bit more risk to a bet, even on a team that is obviously superior to another. Run lines state that a team must win by a certain number of points in order to collect on a bet. While it can be easy to determine who the winner of a game will be, it’s harder to say for sure that they will win by two runs or more. For that reason, the payout is usually higher when you bet the run line.

Finally, there are the total bets. For this type of bet, you bet on whether or not the combined score of a game will be over or under the total posted by the sports books. If the total is 8 runs in a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arizona Diamondbacks, and you bet on the Over line, you will win the bet if 9 runs or more are scored by the two teams. If you bet Under, then you will win if 7 runs or less are scored.

Baseball betting tips for beginners:

We’ve already posted an article with general sports betting tips for beginners, and all those rules apply to baseball betting. Here are a few additional tips to help lessen the learning curve:

•Don’t bet heavy favorites: The long season again comes into play with favorites. The lines will change as some teams prove themselves superior to others, and a loss can really set you back. Stay away from heavy favorites and concentrate on slight underdogs and slight favorites instead.

•Bet on series. One of the great things about baseball betting is that you have a chance to increase your odds a bit through series. Even the best teams 1000 can lose to a poor team on any given night, if you bet on the favorites in a three game series rather than game by game you are much more likely to come out ahead.

PostHeaderIcon Women Guide: Friends To Let Go!

Women Guide: Friends To Let Go!Real friends are hard to find but once you find them they can bring so much joy in to your life. However, not everyone can be that special confidant. Just like other relationships it takes two parties to make it work and I am sure that you must know at least one person that instead of bringing light in to your being consumes your energy and time. Here are some people you should steer clear from:

Liar, Liar- Just like the Jim Carey movie where he played the part of a lawyer that was accustomed to lying on regular basis; well according to your friend her life is perfect. Her husband is the most romantic man in the World, her kids are the smartest, and she makes more money than any one you know. Oh! Did you hear she has a mansion but, rather live in an apartment. Yeah Right! You can stick around but all the lying gets annoying.

Racer – Have you tried taking a course, develop a new interest? Then, you find out you friend is also interested in the same area. At first you feel flattered and support her but, later you find out she’s opposing you by hinting how much better she is or talented than you. Little did you know you were competing against her! A little challenge can be motivating but people should be able to relax around their friends.

Copy Cathy – You and your friend are a perfect match have the same taste in clothes, food etc. but, you find out it is too much once she starts repeating your own word. I do not know many people that would like to have a clone.

Needy Nina – Sure friendship is all about being there for each other in times of need. However, if you can predict that your friend will need a favor from you AGAIN; then chances are she might be taking advantage of you. We all have our own problems and should take care of them accordingly. It may sound harsh but, true.

Women Guide: Friends To Let Go!Flirty Flora – She has reputation of being the biggest flirt. In her mind she thinks she is too hot because of the attention she gets from the opposite sex. However, the reality is that men are responding to the sexy signals she sends. Could she be flirting with your man too?

Two Face Tina – I will never forget the day that I was in a social gathering where someone approached me and made a comment: The food is awful! Even though, there was some truth in that statement I refrained from criticizing the host (my friend). However, when the host joined us for conversation she told her without anybody asking her “The food was wonderful! Honestly her comment was not a big deal but, was it really necessary to be a hypocrite? This person’s behavior that day made me think twice about her character. I wonder to what extent she wears a mask.

Tormenting Terry- This person is nice to you one minute and the next is nasty. Has no boundary to what she says about you in your presence. Always has a cruel remark, do I have to tell you that this is not a friend at all. Her only purpose is to torment you and others around her in order to feel better about herself. Stay away from people like this and stand up for yourself if necessary.

Distant Dena – This is a friend that seems uninterested in spending time or communicating with you. She made had been a good friend before but, keep in mind that people change and grow apart. This is natural and you might just have to let go! Invest your time in developing new friendships.

Drill 1 - Soccer Ball (Softball Hitting)

Purpose: To learn how to drive through the ball.

Procedure: Place a soccer ball on a T. If the T is an open tube, place a small bathroom plunger in the T to hold the ball or use a traffic cone and a plunger. The batter hits the soccer ball hard off the T. If she does not drive through the soccer ball, it will not explode off the bat.

Drill 2 - Football Up and Down Purpose: To develop the agility and quickness to escape a rundown.

Procedure: In staggered rows, players assume well-balanced positions as if between bases. The coach faces the players and gives hand signals to indicate the direction in which players move. The signals are right, left, down, and up. Players shuffle to the side on right and left signals. On the down signal they quickly hit the ground. Players should be absolutely flat. On the up signal they get up quickly to be ready to go again. In a rundown, players use the prone position to trip the defensive player.

Drill 3 - Timed Throws (Softball Catchers)

Purpose: To evaluate quickness of release and speed of the throw.

Procedure: The catcher catches a pitched ball in full gear so that the drill is gamelike. The coach starts a stopwatch when the ball enters the glove and stops it when the ball is released or when the ball reaches the shortstop’s glove at second base. Good times for the ball to go from glove to glove for college catchers are between 1.65 and 1.75 seconds. High school catchers should make the throw in less than 2 seconds.

Drill 4 - Wall Drill (Softball Pitching)

Purpose: To develop proper rotation of the arm.

Procedure: The pitcher throws imaginary pitches using a wall to keep the arm straight in a perfect circle. She stands perpendicular to a wall with the pitching arm close to the wall and about four inches away. The pitcher uses the full pitching motion (including the stride and the opening of the hips), keeping the arm straight and in tight so that it does not contact the wall. The pitcher walks and moves down the wall throwing imaginary pitches.

Drill 5 - Moving to the Base (Softball Infield)

Purpose: To improve quickness and range moving to first base.

Procedure: The first baseman takes a position halfway to home as if fielding a bunt. On the coach’s command “go,” she sprints to the base (turning inward to the diamond), finds the base, takes the receiving position, catches an imaginary ball, and tags the base. The player repeats the drills, moving ever closer to home to increase the distance and push herself to improve quickness in getting to the base.

Varsity Sports

Varsity SportsWhen talking about Varsity Sports, you have many to choose from. The selection does vary slightly depending upon if you are a male or female. You will not find baseball or football on the list for females just as you will not find volleyball or field hockey on the list for males.

No matter which side you play on, sports has always been very competitive. There are men and women who train the entire lives for one sport. Although these young men and women are in school, they still take there sport very seriously.

It is a part of their everyday life just as going to work is for us. In the division for men, you can choose from football, hockey, skiing, soccer, and many others. In the division for women, you can choose from basketball, indoor hockey, softball, squash and many others as well.

The competition in varsity sports has grown over the years. The people that play on these teams look at their particular sport as though they are pro’s. Newspapers and radio stations, magazines and talk shows are all watching them to see who the next interview is going to be.

For many, such as those that are in varsity football, they are striving to be the next big story. This will help advance their career in the professional status. For some, they are on the team because college requires it.

Varsity Sports

Varsity SportsVarsity Sports is for those that have played in high school and are looking to further their career. In some states, being on the varsity football team or the hockey team is the goal for young men and women. Some may feel it is there way out of a small town and for others the whole town may just expect it.

Being in the sports industry can offer a lot of benefits. It can help keep you fit and in shape, keeps many out of harms way and teaches many of life benefits. These are just a few reasons why so many are into sports.

For some sports is a way of life. They start out watching a certain sport with their family and get hooked. After that, they join a team in middle school, graduate to high school and join there team and move on to college on the Varsity team if they are good enough.

The sports industry has its own rules and regulations that you must follow. Each individual sport goes by a different set. The way you play, the type of field that you are on and the kind of equipment that you use are all different. Be sure to choose the type of Varsity Sport that is right for you.

PostHeaderIcon Softball, Born From Baseball

Softball, Born From Baseball

Softball, Born From Baseball

Softball and baseball, although they are similar they are very different. Baseball and softball are both sports that were “born” in the United States. Baseball is considered “the all American sport”. Baseball started in the mid 1800s and softball started in the late 1800s.

Baseball is the game that boys grow up with. They start around 5 years of age but really start getting into the game by age 8. They will play baseball through school and those with drive and determination can go onto Professional Baseball.

Girls play softball in the younger years and both boys and girls in school and after the school years. There are a lot of adult softball leagues keeping adults of all ages busy with one of America’s favorite pastimes. Softball is often played in Physical Education programs at the Junior High School, High School and College levels. In Colleges, for extra activities, teams are set up for intramural sports. Students can sign up to join a team for extracurricular activities. When you are finished with your school years, you can always find a neighborhood recreation program that you can sign up to play adult softball. These adult programs are generally for adults above the age of 18.

Softball, Born From Baseball

Softball, Born From BaseballSoftball is generally divided between Fast Pitch and Slow Pitch. Fast Pitch is more competitive and the ball is delivered fast as it is in baseball. The delivery is from an underhand pitch as opposed to from an overhand delivery as we see with baseball. In this pitch, the arm is rotated backward in a circular motion and as it comes forward again, the ball is released toward the batter and over the plate. It is a difficult pitch to master because if the release is not right, the ball could be anywhere. In Slow Pitch, the pitch also is delivered underhand but the arm is not brought around in the full and fast circle. The action is just a slight ¼ circle underhand toss with a longer arc. The ball drops over the plate and gives the batter more advantage. Slow Pitch is not as competitive and more of a leisure fun activity. Often times, the outs are counted to get back up to bat but the score is often forgotten. (Unless you are playing in a league.)

This is a long way from softball’s early beginnings on a windy day during November, 1887. Yale and Harvard supporters were gathered in Chicago awaiting the results of the Yale-Harvard football game. After the final of the game, someone threw a boxing glove at another and the other person tried to hit it with a stick. With this, the game of softball began. One hundred plus years later, softball was being recognized again. Although the game had attained International status, it was now time for the Olympics to recognize it. Softball was accepted to the Olympics in 1991. The introduction of softball to the Olympic Games appeared during the Summer Games of 1996. The future of baseball and softball is uncertain for the Olympics. The 2 sports will be included in the Olympic Games of 2008 but they have been dropped from the 2012 Games. They will be reconsidered but the drop makes it possible to replace these sports with 2 other sports with more International support. Part of the decision is based on the Baseball leagues refusal to take a break during the time of the Olympic Games. This does not allow the league players the ability to participate.

Running Drills: A Way of Life

If you have more energy at the fourth quarter then your opponent then you have won, and the best way to get endurance are running drills. Running drills will help you gain stamina so that you will be able to play to your full extent throughout the game. Even with all of these benefits you will notice that most of the complaints in practice come from running drills. Just remember that in the end it is the fastest that win games. Running has a final help to your team, and that is learning how to push beyond your limits, you will be surprised how often that happens in football, and in life!

Catching the ball low

Great plays are made through dedicated practice of the fundamentals. Making the plays means that you have practiced the “non-optimal” situation and know how to react to them. Perfect and not so perfect scenarios should constantly run at football practice. Here are some secrets to making this catch. First keep the pinkies together down low to make a shovel. First, keep your hands low and lock your pinkies. Second, keep your knees bent low and in extreme cases you should be flat on the ground or diving. Once you have the football in your hands scoop it up and tuck it away. Third, once you have caught the ball, tuck it away as soon as possible. Never use your body to catch a football. Last, concentrate on catching it first and then worry about the defense, and scoring some more yards.

Boosting College Sports Running Back Drills

Boosting College Sports Running Back DrillsConditioning: Dot drilling

Conditioning is meant to increase speed, endurance, and reaction time on the football field. This drills intention is to help quickness and accuracy on the field which will reduce errors and increase the chances of great plays. In order to execute the drill you will need a place with five dots, either marked on the grass or on a mat, forming an x shape much like the dots for the number five side of dice.

The athlete starts at the edge of the mat placing their feet on two of the outer dots and proceeds to jump with feet together on the center spot and then out again quickly to the outer dots similar to a simple hop scotch motion. Next the player will jump touching each dot with on leg only, and then switch using the other leg. The next step is jumping on all five dots with both feet together. The end step is similar to the first jumping jack step except that this time the player will turn 180 degrees after jumping on the two dots. Players will need to increase their speed and accuracy to be effective with this drill.

Running with the Ball: The Gauntlet Drill

Ball security, preventing fumbles and turnovers is perhaps the most important skill the offensive team can have. This of course is even more important for wide receivers and running backs as they handle the ball more than most. A great drill called the gauntlet practices ball security. The drill starts with a player protecting the ball as best as he can while running through several opponents. The opponents can line up in any scenario, the most common being two lines and the ball carrier must run through them. To be effective with this drill have the ball carrier run the drill holding the ball in several different positions.

PostHeaderIcon Sports Management Not For The Faint Hearted

Sports Management Not For The Faint Hearted

Sports Management Not For The Faint Hearted

There are 2 types of sports clubs; those that offer multiple disciplines in sport and those that only offer one. The more disciplines a club offers and the bigger its membership base, the more powerful it becomes. Single discipline clubs tend to be smaller than multi-discipline clubs, but in certain cases they too can rise to great power. Clubs can offer these disciplines at an amateur or professional level, or both. Clubs also offer a range of programmes including competitive, recreational and instructional programmes.

The competitive programmes are usually held in different leagues to ensure that players of all levels get a chance to compete. There are also a variety of championships and tournaments that individuals are entitled to enter under the club name. If a club is lucky and has sponsorships or enough members to bolster its coffers, it may have enough money to subsidise tracksuits or t-shirts for its members so that when they do compete in tournaments they are able to wear club colours. It is often the smaller recreational clubs who don’t have identifying club colours, but they usually make up for it with club spirit. Bigger, more professional clubs may have club tracksuits, t-shirts and badges to identify themselves. They may have an established fan base and will probably have modern training facilities.

All clubs require their members to pay membership fees. That is part of how they make their money. Most businesses are happy enough to sponsor prizes for once off occasions like a championship finals day or a tournament but are very reluctant to provide long-term sponsorship, unless the club is big and well known and popular within the community. Being on a winning streak also helps. Then they are only too happy to be associated with the club on a long-term basis, which is handy for buying all the modern training equipment. If the team is really big and successful they could have TV rights, there could be transfer fees from players and in some cases there is merchandising. If you earn an income from merchandising then you know that you have hit the big time.

Wikipedia says that sports management is “a field of education and vocation concerning the business aspect of sport. Some examples of sport managers include the front office system in professional sports, college sports managers, recreational sport managers, sports marketing, event management, facility management, and sports information.”

Sports Management Not For The Faint HeartedI think that means that sports management takes care of all the admin in sport as well as all of the organising and arranging. It probably includes a lot of the functions of a committee i.e. the secretary for notes and paperwork, the treasurer for money, the chairperson for general management purposes. Without a structure in place to take care of these tasks there would be chaos and nothing would ever get done. No events would be organised, no training would take place, there would never be any money or if there was, no one would know where it was or how to get hold of it or what to spend it on (other than themselves). Worst of all there would be no one to complain to because with no one in charge who is there to blame?

The bigger the club the more complicated sports management becomes, presumably. If the club is a multi-disciplined club then there may be many subcommittees for each of the disciplines. They would all have a representative on the large overriding committee to report on activities and functioning. The overriding committee would have to keep on top of all the subcommittees and know what is going on in all of them and help them sort out their problems as they arise or delegate tasks for each sub-clubs that would help with the overall running of the club. It would be quite a monumental undertaking and would require great organisational skills.

In cases like this it may help to have an online sports management system, which simplifies a lot of admin tasks and makes the information easily accessible and easily understandable once you have accessed it. An online management system will also allow the club to store all kinds of valuable data such as information on opposition players, opposition weaknesses as well as own team weaknesses, opposition strengths and own team strengths. You can store information on each game and statistics related to the game in general. The more information that you gain and store the more your teams benefit.

Online sports management systems allow you to be organised and efficient as well as keep up to date on all relevant information. All of this is to the benefit of the club and will help to make the club a winning club as well as a powerful one.

PostHeaderIcon Having Trouble Finding Your Favorite College Football Jersey?

Having Trouble Finding Your Favorite College Football Jersey?College football jerseys are the perfect answer for fans who want to show spirit, enthusiasm, support and loyalty for their favorite college football team. Football is a very popular sport, one that dominates the sports industry. Most colleges have football teams that work and play hard to excel at their favorite hobby: football. Teams, fans and family members and friends of team members and fans all love to show their pride and spirit by wearing football jerseys that represent the team’s colors and numbers. Millions of fans all over the world love the idea of showing their support for their favorite college team by wearing college football jerseys and college sweatshirts.

Having Trouble Finding Your Favorite College Football Jersey? While the cost of a high quality football jersey may be more than you want to pay, don’t forget you are paying for the quality of materials and printing. Make sure you are getting what you pay for and make sure they are authentic replica quality and not some off brand knock off. Also, many manufacturers and retailers that make and sell football jerseys will designate a portion of the sales to be directed directly to the team themselves. So the next time you are eyeballing the price tag and are somewhat reluctant to jump for the purchase, remember that a few of the dollars you spend may go to directly benefit your favorite football team. The nice thing about college football jerseys and college sweatshirts is that they do not discriminate against size. It is very easy to find football jerseys for infants, babies, toddlers, children, and adults of all shapes and all sizes. Some companies even carry specialty college football jerseys for women. These are cut differently to accommodate the female form in a complementing and flattering manner, and may even feature pink and other female-friendly colors. The jerseys that are made for babies and children usually use more breathable materials, so to avoid chafing and rubbing against sensitive skin and areas. Another nice thing about college football jerseys is that they are perfect for any season. In the warm months, push sleeves up to allow fresh air to circulate around your body. In the winter, pair your jersey with a turtleneck for adequate warmth.

College football jerseys and College sweatshirts are available for purchase directly from most college stores. Teams themselves might sell jerseys and other apparel as a way of fundraising for their teams. Also, the internet carries many different jerseys for various teams and leagues all over the United States and even the world, so it’s quite possible that you’ll find the jersey you are looking for there.

How Beckham Blew It | MetaFilter

And while they’ve been pretty smart in a lot of ways, Beck’s tenure in LA …. With the Spanish leagues, though, I’m wondering if they’re like the 1960s-70s college football teams where they’re just acquiring talent to keep it from other teams, even if that means carrying over 100 players …

More things that annoy us in sports

I find it pretty ridiculous that we now have nothing else to worry about than to be annoyed with the number on the back of someone’s jersey! Move Over Guys - Women Want Sports Jerseys Too

For generations, there’s been a perception that men have an exclusive franchise on sports fandom. We see advertising images of guys sitting at home in front of their television sets, rooting on their favorite teams, or sitting in sports bars with their eyes trained on TV sets over the bar. Sports commentators are almost exclusively men, and the first woman reporter who did an interview in a locker room caused a huge controversy.

Well, times have changed. Women are sports fans, too, and female sports fans are just as enthusiastic about their favorite NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA teams as guys. Like men, women want to express their enthusiasm by wearing sports jerseys adorned with the numbers and names of their favorite players. Historically, though, women who wanted jerseys have been forced to settle for oversize men’s sizes and cuts. The result? A far cry from a fashion statement.

Move Over Guys - Women Want Sports Jerseys Too

Luckily for female fans, NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA teams have begun to sit up and take notice, recognizing that women constitute a good portion of their fan bases. They’ve also discovered that women are longing for jerseys that reflect women’s enthusiasm for sports, but that also have a feminine twist. Increasingly, female sports fans are finding that there are a number of jerseys created specifically with women in mind. Today, a woman can find a pink jersey, a vibrant jersey, a fashion jersey, or a glitter jersey from virtually any team in the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA.

Breaking out from the pack in women’s sports apparel is actress Alyssa Milano, known for her role in the WB’s “Charmed” and for her love of baseball. Not only does Alyssa Milano have season tickets to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but she also has her own MLB blog. Moreover, she’s gone to the next level and has designed a line of women’s MLB apparel. Called “touch,” her line features fan wear that exudes femininity.

For example, the “touch” women’s criss-cross white tank top features a shelf bra with a screened logo in the center of the chest area. The scoop back features criss-cross spaghetti straps that give the top its feminine appeal. Her baseball jerseys are tradition with a twist: the white body and colored 3/4-length sleeves may be old school, but the rouching detail at the hem on the side seam is purely modern. Alyssa Milano’s spaghetti top features tie strings at the shoulders, while her short-sleeved hoodie features a zipper, contrast stitching, and the team logo near the bottom left hemline. Other jerseys accent short sleeves with glitter stripes.

There’s no doubt that women’s fashion sense is making a splash in the sports world. Replica storm jerseys, fashion jerseys, pink ribbon jerseys, and glitter jerseys are giving female fans one more thing to cheer about!

PostHeaderIcon Tips For Making The Volleyball Team

Tips For Making The Volleyball TeamThere are lots of girls out there, and maybe you are one of them, who are really good at volleyball and still can’t manage to make the team. A big part of the reason is that volleyball tryouts really aren’t that long. It’s hard to be able to tell in a few days whether or not someone really has the skill and drive involved to be good at volleyball, or any other sport. What you have to do, besides being good (because you do need to be good) is to get yourself noticed and to stand out in the crowd.

First, you need to start preparing months in advance. Yes, you need to do the usual and practice as much as you can long before tryouts start, but you should also make an effort to let the coach get to know you ahead of time. The better the coach knows you, the more likely she is to notice how good you are. The easiest way to do this is to attend camps they are teaching or working at. If they aren’t doing any camps, see if you can get involved in team fundraisers. That way, at least they’ll know your name and that you’re dedicated. If you can’t do either of these things, the least you can do is go well ahead of time (several months even) to ask the coach about tryouts. Ask when they are, what paperwork you will need, what skills they think you should know, and any other information you think you need to know. This way, you’ll not only be prepared and feel a little more confident going into tryouts, but you’ll also give the coach a chance to see your face, learn your name, and know you’re dedicated. Just don’t pester the coach or suck up; try to get yourself noticed in a positive light.

The second thing you need to do is to not just be good, be better. Being a great player doesn’t get you noticed if everyone else trying out is great too, you have to be fantastic. Sure, you are limited by your body in how good you can be, but you need to push it as far as it will go (safely, of course). Don’t slack off before tryouts. Practice and work out every day. If possible, get friends together and play when you can. Even better, join a local volleyball team or league (YMCA usually has teams). You can also research in addition to actually practicing. Read books and magazines and learn about what’s going on in the sport. Just remember not to slack off or let yourself go. And if your prospective coach isn’t running any volleyball camps, find some to go to anyways; you may learn some tips.

Tips For Making The Volleyball TeamIf you’ve followed the tips above, you’re well on your way to getting on the team, but there’s one last way to get yourself noticed at tryouts. Many players give it their all when they’re on the court, but once their done, they don’t continue to give it their all. That’s a big no-no. When you’re doing drills, push yourself harder, even if it’s stretching, give it your all. If there’s setting up or breaking down to be done, be the first to volunteer to help. Also, be sure to encourage others and help them if they ask. No matter how good one played is, if they can’t work in a team they really aren’t that useful. Be respectful to your coach an everyone else there. Being rude or copping an attitude (even if you think something is unfair) is the surest way to get cut. You also have to give it your all off the court in the classroom. If a coach is considering picking someone for the team, but her grades are borderline, they may reconsider. A coach doesn’t want to risk losing a player mid-season because their grades aren’t good enough.

If you followed all these tips, you’ve greatly helped your chances of getting on the team, but sometimes, you do your best and still won’t make it. The important thing is not to give up. Keep working on your game. Still offer to help with fund raisers and other events. Some high school teams have student managers. These are good ways to get yourself noticed for next years tryouts. Just remember to keep working on your game. If all else fails, there’s always those YMCA leagues, they can be just as competitive and a lot of fun.

Good luck at tryouts!
